Mário Borgneth’s speech during a debate on public policies was seen as a positive nudge by some filmmakers from Goiás

The National Audiovisual Secretary of the Ministry of Culture (MinC), Mário Borgneth, warned that directors from Goiás should anticipate and get out of self-indulgence in order to gain more space in the national production market. In addition, he instructed filmmakers to stop fighting and bickering with each other. “We keep looking inside ourselves a lot”, he said. The speech came on Wednesday morning (28/5) in a debate with independent producers during the forum on Audiovisual Policy, at the International Environmental Film and Video Festival (Fica) in the city of Goiás.

Post-doctorate in Cinema at the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada, the filmmaker and professor at the Faculty of Visual Arts (FAV) of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) Rosa Berardo received the considerations of the national secretary as fundamental. Citing that sometimes it is necessary for someone from the outside to open the eyes of those in the middle, she highlighted working together, rather than feuding, as the main point of the report. “It’s important not to look only at your own navel”, she said, saying that Goiás filmmakers do not help each other and speak ill of each other.

Rosa added that it is important to become competitive to get resources from the Union through the qualification courses that will be taught by the ministry. She believes that it is possible to do collective work, opening new horizons, and recognizing each one’s difficulties. From that, commented the teacher, there can be a partnership so that the problems are overcome together.
