Photos and illustrations depicting Goiás in the period will be presented during Holy Week
Photographers Cidinha Coutinho, Eliane de Castro, Rosa Berardo and Rosary Esteves and the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN), of the Ministry of Culture, invite the public, who will attend Holy Week in the city of Goiás, to know a little bit more of the history of Goiás. They are responsible for the curatorship of the traveling photographic exhibition “Um Círculo do Ciclo”, which presents photos and illustrations from the 18th and 19th century, representative of the so-called gold cycle in Goiás. Musicians Andréa Teixeira and Euler Amorim open the exhibition tonight, with a little show with mandolin, guitar, piano and flute.
Craveiro, João Basílio de Oliveira, Hercílio Fleury, Hilda Curado and A. Bonvicino are responsible for the records of Corumbá de Goiás, Goiás, Jaraguá and Pirenópolis, carefully selected by the photographers responsible for the exhibition after extensive research in private collections. The drawings by Lúcia Curado and Englishman William John Burchell are also representative of the beginning of the development of cities in Goiás, awakened by the scouts’ rush in search of gold.
The exhibition also ends up portraying the evolution of some photograph development processes, including glass negatives, films and current digital photographs. All the works are accompanied by fragments of texts by several renowned writers from Goiás, such as Cora Coralina, Félix de Bulhões, José Mendonça Teles and Augusto Rios.
The exhibition will be set up at IPHAN’s technical office in the city of Goiás, and is open to the public from today, March 31, to Sunday, April 5th. This is the second stage of the exhibition’s itinerancy, which has already passed through Pirenópolis and, after the season in Goiás, should go on to Corumbá de Goiás and Jaraguá.
